If you all read my previous posts you are aware that I am planning to big chop in January.
In the mean time I have been doing mini chops to get rid of my straggly relaxed ends. My hair was grazing shoulder length and I cut back to neck length.
I am still able to braid my hair into a french braid which makes for an easy protective style.
I have just grown really tired of the tangles that come with the different textures.
I am seeing my new growth coming in at a great rate and has been easy to manage. My plan is to increase the moisture focusing on the new growth. The back of my hair is a lot more coarse so that is my biggest issue right now.
Last night I washed my hair and blew it out so I could cut my hair evenly. I didn't flat iron my hair because I didn't want to use too much heat in one setting so the hair was not bone straight.
I cannot wait for January to come!

13 weeks post...
Hello All!
I am coming up on the 13th week of this stretch. I still have no certain plan of doing another 6-month stretch but for now I am at the halfway point and I am doing pretty good.
I have experienced a little more tangles so far during my wash days but nothing I can't handle. Patience and moisturizing conditioners are saving me right now.
I prepped my hair tonight for a box braid install tomorrow. It consisted of doing a cleansing wash using Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Shampoo and Curl Care Nourishing Conditioner.
I deep conditioned a couple of days ago using Shea Moisture's products but my hair still felt like it needed more umph to it.
I let my hair towel dry for about 15 minutes then parted my hair in four sections. I lightly applied jojoba oil to my roots and ends as my heat protectant and proceeded to blow out the roots of my hair. This allows for the braiders to manage my hair better and hopefully reduce damage.
My hair feels soft and moisturized so these braids should be a great install. Leaving them in for 6-8 weeks should be a breeze. By then I will be 16-18 weeks post relaxer!
I keep learning new techniques but overall protecting my hair is what is important.

Blowing Out Roots
This was a technique that I learned from a lady on YouTube and I gave it a whirl and loved the results.

The way I did it was air dried until about 80-90% and then blow dried the ROOTS only! My new growth wasn't bone straight but were definitely more manageable.
I used a blow dryer that looks similar to this one below:

The teeth on the combs help "straighten" the hair. I found one at Sally's for $20 but there are some online cheaper as well.
The Silk Elements Heat Protectant is AWESOME! My hair didn't feel weighed down and was super soft.
I plan to do week I am maybe 5 or 6 weeks post and maybe 1-2 times a month depending on how unbearable my new growth gets. Since it is direct heat I don't want to use it too often.
In January I want to go on a 6-month stretch and blowing my roots out will help me stretch longer than 3 months.
